Common Shower Plumbing Issues

ShoweTaking a nice, hot shower is one of life’s greatest pleasures. It’s no surprise that shower issues can be one of the most frustrating plumbing problems. In today’s post, we’re going to list the common shower problems and what you can do to fix them.

Weak Water Pressure

Limescale often builds up in the shower head, leading to woefully weak water pressure. This can be an easy fix. Unscrew the shower head and soak it in a solution that breaks down the limescale (many people use white vinegar, as it’s free of chemical solvents). After soaking it for 10-15 minutes, scrub it with a brush. Once you no longer see the limescale, screw the shower head back on.

Clogged Drain

A collection of soap scum, hair, and foreign objects can easily clog the drain, making it difficult to use the shower without an unwanted buildup of water. If the clog isn’t too severe, you may be able to take care of it yourself. Apply hot water to the drain. Next, mix a solution of ½ a cup of baking soda, 1 cup hot water, and 1 cup white vinegar, and pour it down the drain. Let it sit for about 10 minutes then flush more hot water down the drain. If it’s still clogged, you may need some professional help, in which case you can call AW-Sons.

Leaks

A leaky shower head is annoying and expensive, as it can easily waste hundreds of gallons of water weekly. Most leaks are caused by a problem with the shower faucet (valve). When you turn on the shower, water may squeak out from the side, instead of the direction it’s supposed to flow. While you can attempt to fix it yourself, it may be easier to simply ask for professional help from a qualified plumber.

Shower problems are maddening, but you don’t have to suffer through them. Simply call AW-Sons if you need a San Clemente, CA plumber who can quickly diagnose and repair your shower issues.
